Niña Ruiz Abad

Niña Ruiz Abad (1979–1993) was a Filipino Catholic girl known for her deep devotion to the Eucharist and the rosary, earning her the moniker "the girl who always wore a rosary." Born on October 31, 1979, in Quezon City, she was raised by her mother, Corazon Ruiz Abad, after her father's death when she was three. Niña attended various schools, including the University of the Philippines Child Study Center and Holy Angels Montessori School. In 1988, her family moved to Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, where she continued her education and became known for her piety and acts of charity. She was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at age 10 and passed away from a heart attack on August 16, 1993, at the age of 13.

Throughout her short life, Niña demonstrated a profound spiritual maturity. She was known for distributing rosaries, Bibles, and prayer cards, and for encouraging others to deepen their faith. Her commitment to prayer and the sacraments made her a model of holiness for many. Her motto, "God first," encapsulated her approach to life and faith.

In recognition of her virtuous life, the Diocese of Laoag officially opened the cause for her beatification and canonization on April 7, 2024, coinciding with Divine Mercy Sunday.
